Albania start building one of its largest HPPs over the last 30 years

* Highlights
Albania decide the construction of one of the largest HPPs in the last 30 years, Dr Lorenc Gordani, 29th May 2017 Ministry of Energy and Industry as Contractual Authority has open a public tender with the object construction through concession of the hydropower plant “Kalivaç”. The construction of the hydropower plant with a dam, will take place thought contract type B.O.T (Construction – Operation – Transfer), near the village Kalivac, along the downstream of the River Vjosa, from the quota 113 m.a.s.l. up to the quota 73 m.a.s.l. The criteria for the interested Economic Operator to participate in a concession/public-private partnership procedure, based on the value of the Concessionaire “Fee” (given in % of the produced annual ele.en.), ecological and social impact, installed power determined with the calculating flow, time…

Balkans Close to Double its Hydropower Capacity

Balkans Close to Double its Hydropower Capacity

Information, Research
Balkans Close to Double its Hydropower Capacity Annalise by Dr Lorenc Gordani Legal Adviser in Albania Energy Market [pj-news-ticker] There are currently 256 hydro power plants (HPP) in operation in the WB6 region, with total installed capacity of 8,423 MW, of which 7,994 MW in large HPPs (larger than 10 MW). Serbia’s share in the generation capacity is 37%, BiH and Albania follow, contributing 25.4% and 22% respectively. Montenegro, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Kosovo contribute 8%, 7% and 1%, respectively. The vast majority, as much as 92%, of the existing HPPs were constructed in the period 1955-1990. Despite a relatively small capacity addition rate since 1990, 25-54% of electricity generated in the WB6 countries comes from HPPs. Considering the expected increase in electricity demand and the need…

WBs Offers Exceptional Opportunities in HPP Projects

Research
WBs Offers Exceptional Opportunities in HPP Projects by Dr Lorenc Gordani on 08th May 2017 WBs in terms of greenfield HPP projects, has significant capacity in generation to be added to the existing hydropower generation system. The overall identified potential for installation of additional capacities is estimated at 9,868 MW in total (without the small HPPs, nor HPP projects currently in construction with 655 MW and 1,861 GWh of expected production). The above consider 138 candidate HPP projects, made by 6,009 MW of capacity with the potential to generate 18,247 GWh annually and 3,859 MW of candidate reversible projects. With a small number of exceptions, overall candidate projects are in a relatively early stage of development and still development efforts need to be undertaken in order for that potential to…
